Beautiful, bright, and mild. Arose 7:30 A.M. Breakfast and Devotions. Read. To Holy Cross Cathedral in A.M. with bunch from school. Dinner. Nap. Read etc. To 31 Norway. Out for walk around Fenway etc. To Tremont Temple with M.L.Y. Supper at Childs. Talked. To bed 11:45 P.M. Thankful.

Holy Cross Cathedral is a Catholic church, the mother church for the Archdiocese of Boston. It's rather an impressive structure, built in 1875. Below are photos of the outside and the inside of the church as they look today. Both are taken from the Wikipedia article on the church.

I've created this blog to make a record of the hand-written journals of Stanford Stillman Closson (1900-1982), who was in his life a Methodist Minister, grandfather, father, brother, husband, son, cousin, nephew and friend. This is the fifth installment of Date Book, covering 1923 (the first four cover 1919-1922). For as long as seems practical, I will record subsequent years (they continue into the 1970s). I'm matching the days--January 1, 1923 to January 1, 2017, for instance--with one entry per day.

The daily entries are pretty short, though, so in addition to recording the diaries, I'm also annotating them, giving additional information about the people, places and events mentioned by Stanford.

And this year, because Stanford is living in Boston, attending Boston University School of Theology, I will be adding information about early 1920s Boston as well as Schenectady.

Through these annotations, I hope to convey a sense of Stanford's life and times. And of course, I'm also hoping to give his descendants a fuller picture of who he was as a young man.
