Beautiful, bright and cool. Arose 7:15 A.M. Breakfast, Devotions etc. Talked. Read. Swept out room. Dressed. To Bellevue Hotel to see Wendell Nelson. Dinner. Worked. To Hotel again. Talked. Out for walk. To Bunker Hill etc. To "72". Shaved etc. To supper at Ambassador with H.H. and W.M.N. To see "Just Married" at Plymouth. Bad stuff. Ice cream. Talked etc. To "72". Talked with fellows. To bed 1 A.M. Thankful for Christian Training and friends.

I'm assuming that Wendell Nelson is a fellow student. Not enough information to know for sure.

The Bellevue Hotel was pretty swanky. Here is a photo of it from 1905 as it appeared in a print ad.

I've created this blog to make a record of the hand-written journals of Stanford Stillman Closson (1900-1982), who was in his life a Methodist Minister, grandfather, father, brother, husband, son, cousin, nephew and friend. This is the fifth installment of Date Book, covering 1923 (the first four cover 1919-1922). For as long as seems practical, I will record subsequent years (they continue into the 1970s). I'm matching the days--January 1, 1923 to January 1, 2017, for instance--with one entry per day.

The daily entries are pretty short, though, so in addition to recording the diaries, I'm also annotating them, giving additional information about the people, places and events mentioned by Stanford.

And this year, because Stanford is living in Boston, attending Boston University School of Theology, I will be adding information about early 1920s Boston as well as Schenectady.

Through these annotations, I hope to convey a sense of Stanford's life and times. And of course, I'm also hoping to give his descendants a fuller picture of who he was as a young man.
